How Do You SAY Roofing Pitch???

Okay, this is probably the silliest question I've ever asked and it makes me feel like a newb. I'm an avid DIY'er and generally just figure things out on my own, but never usually have to actually "talk" to someone.

I plan to have my roof re-roofed late this spring. Its too steep for me to comfortably do myself as it has a 9/12 pitch. I know a couple of guys in the trade and want to talk to them about it....but I don't want to sound like a complete idiot.

How to you actually say 9/12 pitch? Is is "nine over twelve" pitch? "Nine-twelve pitch"?

Thanks! I'm sure this is going to make a few more experienced people chuckle.

I've always called and heard it called a nine - twelve pitch .... or four - twelve, five - twelve, etc.
