finish ends with strapping on trusses
What is the proper way to finish the gable ends of my pole barn? All the trusses have been strapped using 2x6 on 24" centers and 18" overhang on the gables.

So, you have the framing in place and just want to know how to finish? Since this is a barn how "finished" do you want it to be? You can just leave the wood exposed. You can paint, or you can fully box in the gable overhang and soffits like you would on a house.

Finished enough to keep the birds out...but in reality, I would like to completely box it in and finish it right eventually.....on another note. .I thought I already posted this. ..

Um...I have only posted 2 threads about trusses...1 about weight and this one...is that too many for you? Also, I was referring to the last post in this thread which disappeared after I posted. Anyhow, thanks for your input on the question at hand..it is invaluable.

Not too many for me, hoss, but for someone that isn't accustomed to jumping from thread to thread, it could be. Why your post disappeared could be a mystery, or clicking "back" rather than "post". Can't tell. Could you post pictures of your project, so we can see what you are seeing?

It may be difficult to finish the gables with metal, since your framing is vertical, without installing perlins to attach the metal. Installing horizontal siding may be easier and would make a complete cover.
Edit: nice barn

Dang...I didn't even think about how to put metal on the gabled end trusses. The original question was in reference to finishing off the strapping on top of the trusses...but I am glad you pointed that out.
Thanks...hopefully it will turn out good...I THOUGHT the old poles would be fairly easy to work with...boy was I mistaken...you never realize how crooked utility poles are until you try to make a straight wall lol

As far as finishing the strapping, why not nail 1x3 to the ends. Your roofing will need to protrude another inch or so, but it will look finishes. If using metal roofing, just cap the ends with a edge finish. Quite common, and it will hide it all.
