Leaky gutter

Question

I notcied that one of my gutters developed a hole in it.
What is the best way to patch the hole in the metal gutter?

What caused the hole? If it simply rusted through, the gutter probably isn't worth fixing. Replace it. But if it were caused by some object going through it, then you might be able to repair it by pop-riveting a piece of sheet metal. Use a liberal amount of 'seam and gutter lap' (in a caulking tube in the paint section of any big box or hardware store) between the gutter and the new piece of metal, then use it to seal the edges of the new piece, as well as the rivet ends inside the gutter.

Yes, it appears to be rust. I was kind of afraid that it might need to be replaced as it appears to have been leaking for some time as I can see the eorsion on the ground below.
