I had a pretty annoying flood recently in my basement. Water literally coming out from under my walls and even my circuit breaker. I did some research and saw that many people recommended French Drains to intercept the water from going to the foundation of the house. I understand that French Drains are a temporary fix but that's really all I can afford right now. Only thing is, I'm a bit confused about how they work. I'm seeing 2 types of installations: 1. Videos that show the pipe inside a trench and then covered with gravel. However, they don't show the pipe sticking out from any end to throw the water out. Should I assume that they just aren't showing the exit point in the video? Or can you actually just throw the pipe in the trench and leave it there? 2. Then I'm seeing videos of the pipe inside the trench, and then completely covered with dirt and grass. Doesn't that make it more difficult (or even impossible) for the water to get to the pipe? I also don't see an exit point with installations like these either. This is going to be a project that my family will get together and work on, and I just want to know the right way of going at it. I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Hi guys. First post here and thanks in advance for your input. I'm having a house built (first time). Roofers installed a concrete shake roof but unfortunately they installed the wrong color shakes. It's not even a color we'd be comfortable keeping. The roofer says it's a big pain to remove the roof and offered to have it professionally painted to the color we wanted. I think they'll also offer some compensation too. The roofer offered a 10 year warranty on the paint job and guaranteed it would not come off. What do you guys think about a painted concrete tile roof? It's a brand new roof we're paying for so we'd prefer to have the roof removed and re-roofed with the correct color material. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
