Gutter Gizmo advice
I moved into this house last year and found a leaky gutter that had been repaired way too many times. There has been a lot of rain and snow this past year and it is getting worse. I can see why the repairs have not worked because the gutter is not supported and is also doing some crazy turns before it heads down so the gutter probably moves a lot when it is loaded up. So the sealants don't work very long. Should I just try to redo what I have or try for a new and improved design?

Welcome to the forums! Is that a downspout being tied into another downspout?? Not going to work. Will leak for sure. The left gutter needs its own downspout. Key word "down", not sideways.

The left gutter is only 4 ft long, over the porch. Would it be possible to use some sort of funnel arrangement? Several houses in the neighborhood have the same arrangement. The tricky part is the wrapping around the corner.

They do make a wye downspout.Look it up.You would have to cut it in lower and see if it works for you. Pictures further back with some roof line and walls would help. Just a suggestion.

I think it should slant downward and tie into the main downspout a little lower. That is a little too horizontal for my tastes. Standing water in there can eventually work its way through the seams because it doesn't get evacuated completely. I'd also like a better pic of the connection to the main downspout. I can't tell for sure from the pic but it looks like that 4 foot section slides OVER a connector built into the main spout. If so it should slide INTO it instead. All 'uphill' components (where the water is flowing from) need to slide 'into' rather than 'over' downhill components (where the water is flowing to) to minimize any chance of leaks as water goes through. When done this way that application should not even require sealant.

This is some more pictures.
One issue with bringing the downspout for the 4 foot gutter is that it is on the porch and near a hand rail that is close to the wall so room is a factor.
Thank you!

Seeing that only further convinces me of what I said before. That can work but not like it is there. It looks pretty much horizontal where it curves to tie into the front downspout. Because of that the water wants to go out through the seams rather than straight down the pipe. I would redo that section that ties it in by replacing the section of the main downspout that had the hole cut in it, putting the hole lower on the replacement section, then re-doing the tie in so there is a slope to it.

Should I just use elbows to make the tie in over to the main downspout? I am not able to picture how elbows would curve around the outside corner without having to piece together a lot which is going to create a potential to leak.

Hi Cynthia, you should have on hand a rivet tool, sheet metal snips, drill and bits and a sheet metal hand crimper.Make your own short sections etc. You could buy these for the cost of hiring out someone.Probably make it look better then I could. No pressure in down spouts so keep that in mind. I like hard pipe rather then flex. With some tools a lot more options can be made. Good luck.

Wow, this may not be a DIY project unless you know how to form gutter shapes from metal, right?
Do you think the curve around the wall could be done with pre-fab gutter pieces?
