roof nail size

Im building a shed and wondering what size nails are good..I have a roofing gun that takes up to 1 3/4 nails. Is there any disadvantage of usinf longer nails other then them going through? Its a shingle roof and 1/2 inch of sonething..the reason I ask is because I can get a box of 1 3/4 nails really cheap n I could use on other projects

Thanks

There is no problem in using the longer nails. No more or less holding ability. They will protrude through the underside more, making a head scratcher for you.

walls are 8 feet and I will most likely add a ceiling so that shouldn't be a problem..Only issue i see is if i need to remove them later it will probably be harder then smaller ones.

Thanks

Not really. You only have 1/2" plus the felt and shingle thickness to pull out whatever there is driven through them. 1" would probably be ideal, but if you have a future use for the nails, then this won't be an issue.
