How do I bridge this gap between drip edge and gutter?
I noticed water falling from behind my gutters so i went up and noticed there is approximately 1" between the drip edge and gutter. Because of this, water is rolling off the drip edge and behind the gutter, along the fascia.
The gutters seem to be screwed in right so I don't think they are sagging or anything. The gap runs most of the length of the house.
On another forum, they suggested I get a roll of 2-3 inch aluminum flashing, insert it under the drip edge and over the gutter and then screw it into the wooden fascia.

Sure, that would work. But I question 2 things. Why aren't the gutters higher? And why did they use d-style edge over a gutter instead of using gutter apron?

I don't really have an answer to either question. The gutters are 20+ years old. The roof was installed two years ago when I bought this house. I suppose if I had noticed this sooner, I would have gone back to the roofer and demanded he fix this.

1/2" z-flashing would also work. But it usually comes in galvanized only... you would be hard pressed to find it in white. It would probably be easier to install, since its in 10' lengths and its more rigid, it will slip under the existing d-edge easier. I'd probably recommend the z-flashing but either way would work.

Do you want to do this right or just patch it?
Hind sight is 20/20.
If this was mine I would have removed the gutters, wrapped the fascia with PVC coil stock and reinstalled the gutters up under the drip cap, or better yet had new seamless gutters installed with hidden gutter hangers.
The way it is now you have peeling paint leaving the wood exposed to rot.
