Hello

We just had a new asphalt shingle roof put on, and were concerned because hundreds of the roofing nails used to nail down the shingles are protruding through the overhangs of the eaves!

Is this normal? Our contractor said b/c our decking was so thin (3/8"), the 1 1/4" nails protruded but its ok, b/c if he used (3/4") shorter nails it would risk shingles coming loose....

We are concerned the decking may deteriorate from being nailed all the way through to the other side. He said to have the eaves painted to protect the exposed nails and wood....doesnt sound quite right!

Please email all replies to gmo415@hotmail.com
A response is greatly appreciated!!

hes right wont hurt a thing and if he did use shorter nails shingles will blow off.if you really dont like the nails you could always get a pair of nippers and cut them off voiding any gauranteee the roofer gave you though

The job was done correctly, and your roof was correct. Roofing nails must always come through the sub roofing to hold. Relax, have a drink.
