Our 4 year old asphalt roof is stained and nasty looking.
My brother said to mix a 50/50 solution of Clorox Bleach and water to clean the roof. He actually did a small section and it looks BRAND NEW again. However, I'm concerned if using Clorox is an accepted practice. Is it going to destroy my shingles? Will it dry and leave white streaks all over? Or should I use something else? Thx

This is a common practice and should not hurt your roof at all. Some use apple cidar white vinagar instead of clorex.

Wink

Bleach 50/50 works on concrete too. Often the black stains are a type of growth that clings tenaceously and has to be not only killed, but scrubbed loose with a stiff brush. Be sure to rinse everything off--especially your shoes, or you can leave footprints. I know!
