6 Mil Poly as a Water Barrier
I have an area where water occasionally puddles. I have no where to run the water to if I was to do a french drain, etc. I only need to keep the majority of the occasional puddle from getting under a structure until the water seeps into the ground or evaporates. I'll need the barrier on 3 sides only as water never gets to the front of the structure. If I did a narrow trench on 3 sides of the structure and line the trench with 6 mil poly, how long will the poly last in the ground? Does it break down easily?

The poly will extend a few inches above grade around the 3 sides (in case someone was wondering how buried poly was going to retard surface water).

yes, it will break down - that's why its temporary,,, buy some pond liner instead,,, that'll be there til the devil comes callin' for you,,, & don't let me hear you bit** about price either,,, i swear h/o's & diy'ers are letting their wallets decide what's good work/mtls only because the apron/vest stores are so convenient,,, you want cheap, use the 6mil & redo it :madhell fix it right the 1st time & go enjoy a fine cigar

Thank you. Not looking to go cheap. I've invested a lot of money and time. Want to do it right. Didn't think of pond liner. The cost won't be prohibitive compared to money an labor to date.
