I am a first time home owner. We recently found the leaking in the master bedroom floor (second floor) near the chimney. There is a sun room next to the master bedroom and the chimney is in between the sun room and the master bedroom. When it's raining, in the sun room I can see dripping along the chimney. I am wondering if these two leakings are connected. In particular, if the dripping in on chimney is due to the sun room roof sealing problem, why water comes to the bedroom? Thank you very much ! I had a contractor just finish installing a new shingle roof on my house in the San Diego, CA area and have some questions about his work. I am attaching a few photos of the work done. The first couple photos show the ridge caps. Are these installed correctly? Seems like water can go in the center channel. Next pic is of a solatube. He said that it only came with rubber flashing which he installed underneath the shingles, so basically the only thing keeping water is the tar between the tube and shingles? I looked at the solatube instructions and it said there's an optional metal flashing. Shouldn't that definitely be installed? Next is the back of the chimney with flashing (or is it underlayment) underneath shingles. Won't this allow ponding in that area which will let water go back underneath the shingles? He didn't put tar all the way on that transition. Next is two sections of roof meeting each other with a gutter, have no idea what the hell is going on here. Second to last is transition from rolled roof to sloped roof, drip pan isn't over the underlayment the whole way. Last pic is the rolled roof portion which has various air bubble sections and nails all over covered in tar. Anyone have any thoughts on this? The whole job looks sloppy and I'm thinking about calling an "expert" out to get their opinion, which will cost me another $350.
