I am in the process of repairing and upgrading an older 80's era single wide home. The (gutter) has failed long ago, and virtually every window has allowed some moisture to enter and rot the window sill, and/or swell the particle board flooring beneath the window areas.
Since I am going to install an EPDM roof membrane, I thought it may be a good time to add a little overhang similar to what helps keep rain off regular home windows. Has anyone out there done this? Any helpful hints you want to share? I am thinking of covering just a plain 2X4 with PVC coil trim that will match the vinyl siding I'm planning to install. In addition, I am seriously considering going right over the existing aluminum exterior panels instead of removing them. (This is a rental property and I don't want to see how long I can take to finish it.)
If I don't do the overhang idea, has anyone come up with a make shift mini-awning that I could just install over each window?

I doubt just installing awnings over the windows would help much. The aluminum siding is prone to leak anywhere there is a screw/joint
IMO the best thing to do is to install a roof over, that way you can get a good overhang along with a fascia board big enough to install gutters if needed/desired. Just screwing a 2x to the top of the wall won't give much overhang, especially if you add siding.
