Question Questioning Roof Repair - Doesn't look right to me. Please weigh in.

My Folks had some repairs done to a roof they thought was leaking. The person offered to add some flashing to the chimney as well. I went part way up to see the work and have not been able to get all the way up to the top yet, but I did managed to take a couple pictures from my vantage point. I grouped 3 pics into 1 to show the general area. The shingle install in question is on a relatively flat surface where the 2 steeper sides come down and meet it. This flat area is about 2-3 ft wide x 10ft in length and has about a 20 deg pitch downward. The odd flashing is in the 2nd picture. I am no roofer but this just doesn't look right to me. Any experienced or professional opinions are very welcome and appreciated. Thanks for reading this post.

Had tar only before work was done. Silver and Brown flashing are new additions.

Welcome to the forums!

I'm a painter, not a roofer but I've never seen a valley done that way Those shingles should be under the shingles above it. Rain water will get under the new shingles!!

Has the guy been paid yet? was he a roofer or just a handyman?

Thanks for the response marksr. This person is a handyman type. The person did receive payment. Folks bought the materiel and paid him for labor. All in about $450.

Just doing a proper chimney flashing without any of the other stuff can be 300-500 dollars from a certified roofer.

Sad to say you need to either need to get the original person to come back and do it right, get someone else to do it right, or get ready for major water leaks. The chimney flashing is all wrong, too.
