Question

Should I hire a contractor or could a do-it-yourself approach be used to install a roof ridge vent system? Also is there any information out on manufacturers/component parts availability?

ridge vent

Ridge can easily be installed by a home owner, but if you can't walk on the roof with out slipping off HIRE A CONTRACTOR.
Start on the left side of the ridge
1st measure in about 1 foot from the edge and remove the caps all the way across the ridge to the right side and stop approx. 1 foot from the end.
2nd Take a skill saw set it to the depth of your roof deck, remove any nails that might be in the way of where you're going to cut, measure down about an inch and snap a chaulk line.
3rd Cut away the 1" strip and install your ridge vent(whether it's roll vent or cora vent)to the specifications on the instuction and replace the caps.
