Question

MY HUSBAND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF 1/2 NAILS WILL GOOD ENOUGH WHEN PUTTING SHINGLES ON OVER FELT AND 1/2 SHEATHING FOR OUR PATIO ROOF? WE LIVE IN THE DESERT AND GET WINDY SPELLS. WOULD 3/4 INCH NAILS GO THROUGH SHEATHING ENOUGH TO BE AN EYESORE? THANKS

1/2" nails

Is the inside opened up or closed in with a finished product like tongue and groove boards, dry wall, and what have you.
If it is open you might want to use a nail that won't portrude through to the inside.
If there is a finished product and you can't see the extieria shiething from the inside then I suggest you use 3/4" or 1" nails.

Well....I've never seen a 1/2" roofing nail!?!?

7/8" or 1" are usually the minimum length.

If wind was my main problem, I believe that eyesores would not be an issue.

1 1/4" nails are very common in roofing applications.

Shingles are about 1/8" thick at the thinnest part.
