Hi All, I'm at my whits end with a basement water problem and I could use some help on how to proceed. During hard rains I get roughly 3-5 gallons of water that come in through the bottom block of the wall and floor of my basement. I've tried all the basics I can think of to try and correct the problem. All of gutters are clear, my downspouts lead into a city collected storm drain which has also been snaked and cleaned, the grade is away from my house along that wall and is actually a concrete sidewalk connected to my driveway so no open soil anywhere near the exterior wall. What I'm wondering is how to tell if I've got an exterior perimeter drain that was installed when the house was built in 1956. I don't have any sort of sump pump system either interior or exterior but I've read that some drains do tie right into the storm sewer. Is there any way to tell if I've got drain tile at the footer without actually digging up the side of my house? And if I don't have an existing footer drain is it possible to tie a new one into that storm sewer lateral? Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to be getting the exterior of my house painted in the near future and a few of the fascia boards will need to be replaced. Therefore, the gutters will need to be removed to do so. I'm contemplating whether to have the gutters replaced or just have them re-installed. The gutters are original to the house (32 years old), but appear to be in pretty good shape. The main issue is the fasteners are pulling away from the fascia boards, but I figure I could just replace the fasteners with larger diameter ones (if that's even possible) to get a better bite in the wood. Is there any reason why I should replace the gutters as opposed to fixing them? Do they make a screw-type fastener that holds better as opposed to the nail-type that works itself loose over time? I have the middle style fastener (spike/ferrule) and most of them have pulled loose. Hammering them back in has not worked (they continue to pull loose), so I'd like to use a screw-type if one exists. Or I suppose I could use a different style fastener (e.g. concealed) and just leave the old fasteners in place. [ATTACH]52400[/ATTACH]
