Replacing a single shingle

I have one or two shingles that have curled. I've heard the best way to repair this is the remove the bad shingle replace with a new one. Do I put the roof glue on before I slide the new shingle into place or after?

roof glue????take a flat bar pull the nails on the shingle above the bad one pull the nails on the bad one slide into place and if you want put a dab of roofing cement, tar whatever you want to call it over the nailheads and your done be careful

Roof glue? What was a thinking? So am I nailing the new shingle in or do I put roof cement on the back of the new shingle and then put it into place. How do I get the new shingles to stay put. Sorry for for the confusion. Thanks.
