Just bought a home. Can someone identify what this thing in that I found about 6 inches from my wall on the front and side yard

Yep, it's a bait station for termite treatment. If you unscrew the top you should see some pieces of wood or large wood shavings in it. If you don't then it's probably been abandoned and just not removed. I think they are normally placed about every 10-15' around the perimeter.
Personally I liked them a lot when I had them at my old place. No pumping chemicals in to the ground needlessly. They actually can eliminate the colonies instead of just repelling them.
Do some research with the old owner or their realtor and see what they had. I don't think those are the DIY type, looks like what Orkin put in for me.
