Metal roof question

Recently during a ride through the country side I noticed metal roofing is becoming more common. On roofs of this type many were a plain corrugated metal fastened to the whole span of the structure. However, on some roofs I noticed small protrusions on the surface of the roofs spaced about two or three feet from edge of eves, sometime further up. They tend to stick up about three inches evenly spaced across the width. My question is, what are these? I assume they might be some type of ice or snow diversion of sorts. Again many did not have them but many did. The slope of the roof does not seem to be a determining factor since most were of mixed slop be it home or barn.

If we are on the same page, those are snow/ice breakers to keep a sheet of snow/ice from just sliding off of the roof. Around here some will place them in a straight line across the lower portion of the roof while others will stagger them.

are they one of these - https://images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/...&type=avastbcl

We normally have those "peaked" snow brakes positioned only above entryways and areas where there's likely to be human traffic down below who could be injured by the falling ice and snow when it finally lets go . . . . sometimes more than a ton at a time !
