Question Recycle Patio Slates for Use in French Drain

I have a lot of old patio slates. I was considering using them in place of gravel for a french drain. Is this possible? Thanks

Broken up they might do ok but with stone for drainage you want a lot of irregular shapes so 2 stones won't mate together so the water can easily flow thru.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Awful lot of work breaking that stuff up but removing it alone might do a lot of the work for you.
