steel roofing installation

I am thinking of installing a steel roof on my house. the house currently has one layer of asphault. the shingles are getting aged and some wind caused some to come loose. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to put the steel over the existing shingles? I have roofed a few houses with shingles but no steel except a couple of porches and garages. I was also wondering if there is a good video arount that shows the complete job of installing steel. I know some of the basics but am not a pro. the main thing I was worried about was how to vent the steel roof. does it vent through the ridge cap? I also noticed in some of the previous threads on steel roofing that they recommend the use of ice barrier. how would that be appropriate on the steel over shingles? thanks

If you're on a farm, people put steel over shingles all the time... on sheds and barns. They do this by adding horizontal "perlins" over the shingles to elevate the metal above the shingles. Some people have that same mentality on a house, which imo is just wrong. Like you mentioned, the roof decking is usually completely covered with ice and water shield before the roofing is applied. You can't do that without stripping the shingles.
