Hi,
My roof has 3 layers of shingles on it, is it save to de-tab the top layer and then put a new layer over it?
Thanks,
Brian

Ask your insurance company if they will insure a triple layer roof. Most will not due to it is easier to damage. I'd suggest take all layers off. Besides its almost impossibe to take only one layer off.

a million years ago i worked for two brothers one was about 64 other was abot 66.that was thier idea of a tear off,got up there with a razor knife cut each tab off at the top of the rain slot.i had never seen that done and have never since but when iasked what the h**l are we doing they said it qualiried as a tear of ie removal of one layer to stay within code.didnt agree then and still dont but i guess its an option they had been in business for like thirty years

Thanks for all the replies!
A roofing contractor was trying to sell this to me, but I thought it was a bad idea.
