Covering the metal on my extension ladder...

Can anyone suggest something I might have around the home to cover the metal at the top of my extension ladder to prevent scratching the surfaces that it leans against?

I prefer to use the ladder boots/socks like Vermont pictured. I have used rags wrapped around the top of the ladder but prefer the socks.

Thanks all. I like the idea of using something designed specifically for this purpose (plus it's under $10.

Ah, but it doesn't meet your requirement of "something I might have around the home".

I have also used towels or rags taped around the ends.

Well it was a hope more than a requirement.

I have used old rags for years. Can't see the expense of the bumpers.

Before they started selling the ladder socks we always used rags. I would not go back to rags unless I had no choice! They come in different styles [?] and prices. The cheaper ones are just a thin cover while the higher priced ones are thicker and give a little bit of cushion. All of them last a long time. I've never consider the price of any of them to be a deterrent. ..... but then I spent a good part of my working life on ladders.
