Metal roofing
Hi All, would metal roofing span 8’ without support? We are trying to cover an area appropriately 70’ X 8’ , see pics.

Typical metal roofing material should be attached to supports every 2' along the length of the panel and should be sloped to shed water. Your main concern would be making sure the metal remains attached during high winds. There are awning kits that will easily span 8' and only need to be attached at the header and front rail. They too require being installed with some slope.

There are heavy gauge panels that can span considerable distance. Most metal buildings span quite a distance between supports. I think the roof on my warehouse is supported about every 6'.
I did a shed for firewood and for the roof used steel decking that was intended to support concrete floor pours in commercial buildings. It spans 8' without problem... but it's not very pretty.

Thanks for the replies, it appears we may need to go the canvas route, metal needs to much support and wind maybe an issue as well.
