best caulk to re-seal steel roof/chimney gap?
Noticed water leaking inside down chimney-
Discovered that sealant caulk degraded, and repointing needed.
Pics show where degraded caulk removed and steel roof needs to be re-sealed.
Waiting (possibly 1-2 mos) for mason to repoint chimney, which has been tarped.
Lexel 10.5-fl oz Clear Paintable Solvent Caulk was recommended at local building supply store -is this appropriate?
What is best "pros use" product to get a quality, long-lasting seal for this application?
What is best backer to use?
Thanks for your time!

XSleeper, thanks for your reply.
Apparently big box doesn't stock Geocel 2300 or Solar Seal 900, but local roofing supply appears to have them.
Gaps at roof peak actually are fairly deep. Found a heavy felt in places under the caulk. You recommend std. backer rod?
