Why are gutters so crappy?

I went into Menards to look at gutters, and was really shocked to see how flimsy they were - and flimsy is an understatement!

The gutters I just removed were strong enough to lean a ladder against, without any damage - no way I could lean a ladder against what I just saw.

Does anyone have strong gutters these days?

I've never been to Menards but typically big box store gutters are cheap and only come in 10' lengths. While more costly, seemless gutters are the best way to go!

That said, it's never a good idea to rest a ladder on the gutter but when you don't have a choice it's best to set the ladder where one of the hangers are.

Gutters are one time when DIY is typically not the answer - you want continuous lengths of gutter, called seamless since there are no joints/seams between pieces, but you can only buy pieces in the box stores.

I only install my own gutters on really small projects. Otherwise I hire a contractor to do it. They form them to length on site so there are no seams and they install them for not much more than it would cost for me to buy the materials. And when having gutters installed you get a choice of material and can go thicker or thinner depending on your budget.
