I have a 16x14 wood shed roof that I have built and laid shingles on. The roof is a single slope, and I have laid all shingles (first time I've done this), and have made it to the top of the roof. I don't quite know how to 'finish' the top. I have installed an edge drip guard around the entire roof edge, and the nails for all shingles are hidden except I don't know how to to hide the nails in the top row (which usually would be covered by the next row). Should I just put tar over the nail head? Or cut off the part of each shingle for the last row that is used to nail the next row down, and glue the rest down somehow? Sorry for the novice question, I can find lots of answers if I have a roof ridge, but I don't have one!

I believe I'm on the right track but wanted to verify here. I have some vertical cracks (some leaking) in the basement waiting to dry I want to inject but want to get everything outside straight first. I put in a new sump pump, ran a line out to daylight because it was too close to the house and the original tube would just overflow next to the house. That's running like a champ. I get leaks and seaps in other places but assuming it's just settling cracks that need to be repaired (not new or getting worse). Gutters are great, extenders are fine, no standing water, etc. We did get a storm recently that wasn't ordinary that beat on the front of the house and water came OVER the wall, breaking the rim joist. After looking at it and reading, I believe it's because the dirt is packed up high on the brick veneer; maybe someone has seen this before. I already dug it out in the pictures but you can see just how much I took out.
