Filling humid spaces with foam

Hello:

I have several places where gables (soffits & rakes) 'land' on another part of the roof (I'd show a pic if the upload had not failed), and there, pockets form. While they are shallow (quite a lot less than a cubic foot), it is very humid there (rain, snow), and the paint on the soffits peals. I was planning to fill these pockets with flexible foam to eliminate them. Are there such foam products? What would they be called and who would sell them?

Finally, do you think this is a good idea? Thanks!

Hans L

PS. This shows what I mean by 'pocket':

If uploading photos from a phone the file size is probably too large. It's best to upload your photos to a web photo hosting website. Then you can cut and past the img code so your pictures appear hear.

As far as the foam it's called... foam and is often near insulation in most home centers. It's used to fill odd gaps like around windows and doors. It's available in a high and low expansion forms and comes in spray cans. For larger areas you can order it online in larger package sizes and expansion ratios.

Pilot Dane, thanks for your reply. I uploaded from my computer, and the pix were each over 4 MB. Probably too large, which is a pitty, as they were just ordinary photos.

I'll go to my local Home Depot and see what I can find.

Again, thanks!

Reading specification about expanding foam:

Coverage Area (Sq.Ft) 8

They do not want to tell you how big a VOLUME a tube will fill. Or, as my wife says, you can't fix stupid. Sneaky or stupid, no useful information. What a surprise.

I'll go an buy a tube tomorrow, and see what it will do.

There needs to be a 30 day waiting list and background checks before buying foam. Looking at your photo, that is NOT an area you want to use expanding foam. There is nothing wrong with it as is.

do you think this is a good idea?
No!

XSleeper. "30 day waiting list and background checks": funny!!!

In my area, like the one I show in the photo, and in several other similar areas, humidity has rotted out the wood to quite en extent. Snow accumulates there in the winter, and it thaws and then, it accumulates again, and so on. Lots of humidity that goes nowhere until all the snow has thawed. Rain runs in the too, so it is quite often humid for extended periods.

I need to eliminate the "pockets", and I will try expanding foam in one place, and if it works, I will go on. If it does not do the job, well, I will have to find a different solution.

I learn by my mistakes.

I will use the filler the first time where I can undo more easily than in other places. I have various cavities, so it may work in some but not in others. Will let you know how it worked (yes, I will be honest :-)
