Pole barn roofing screws
I have a pole barn-type roof on an outbuilding, about 30 years old. I periodically find that a leak has started, apparently around a screw hole. I have tightened all the screws, but some no longer tighten. Should I just apply some stuff over the screws, such as "Through the Roof" sealant? Would that be a long-term solution? Or will it be a problem some day?

would also replace the screws they are available in different sizes so you can likely just go up a size.

Some of your screw holes may have stripped or rotted out. You can go to a larger size if the damage isn't too extensive. If it's bad I'd seal the fastener and install a new one nearby.

Just a thought--Any screw will eventually have its gasket deteriorate, often allowing some water to get into the hole and degrade the wood. How many times can you upgrade the screws?
What would be an actual serious problem with just dabbing your screws with sealant like Through the Roof--at least in applications where appearance is not a big concern (although Through the Roof is clear and does not show up too badly).
I suppose that if you ever had to remove the screw, it would make it a bit more difficult. But Through the Roof is supposed to be permanent, so I don't know why you would have to remove it...
Any thoughts?

That sealant may work. My house and barn have the old 5Vcrimp metal roof. I've never had any rubber washers go bad but I paint the roofs about every 5 yrs or so. Sooner or later all steel roofs need painting.
