Hello, I have a Home that has an addition built on it. The problem that I am having is the roof that was built onto the additional room doesn't have a steep enough pitch to it and keeps having issues with leaks. I have had numerous repairs done and still have leaks because of the pitch of the roof. I was told that I could have the roof rebuilt however, that would be very expensive. I was thinking that I would double coat that section of the roof with a special roofing coating and then put some special thick felt covering on it before having a metal roof installed over the whole roof of my house. Can anyone give me some advice and suggest the best roof coating and the best felt covering to use? The pictures that are uploaded are 3 years old when the roof was repaired and it is currently still leaking. Thanks in advance
Since you have had so much trouble I would install ice & water shield instead of tar paper (felt paper). Ice & water shield is self adhesive so it sticks in place and it seals around nail holes
Hi All,
We have a fairly small home 24'x32' and due to the quoted price for the new roof, I'm looking for some feedback.
What we're doing is removing the old asphalt shingles (two layers) and the old 1" rigid insulation and then we're building basically a whole new roof deck on top of the old with 2x6 framing which will then be filled with spray foam so that we'll reach R-38. Shingles will be CertainTeed Landmark. We are in northern New England.
For this work we are being quoted the following:

Demo/Install Asphalt Roofing: $15,000.00

Materials:$12,361.84

Insulation:$15,000.0

Total: $42,361.84
I realize without all the details it'll be a little hard to say for sure, but what does your gut say about this price-wise? In your experience are we being gouged or is it fair? I am slightly in shock at the price but I can say that this house definitely needs more insulation, and this is one of the few places where we can add a lot, and this should also stop our ice dam problem (at least the worst of it) so I'm happy with the thought of that. We can afford this but it is tough to stomach spending so much on this project so I'm just looking for thoughts from those of you that may have more expertise in this area.
Thank you in advance!
Im unsure how J channel is actually supposed to work with vinyl siding. Rain runs down the vinyl siding and collects at the top of the channel and then is diverted down either side of the channel. That makes sense to me, but the problem is once it gets down to the bottom of the channel it is being funneled directly behind the siding, This is how it is on all my windows/vents around my house. Maybe I am missing something but should it not be kicking the water out at the bottom back on the outside of the siding instead of letting it run behind. This is especially bad since my house was built in 05, which means the builders took shortcuts and did not use a house wrap on my house. This has me worried.
