Can you use architectural shingles on a gambrel roof?

I have a small shed I need to re-roof. It currently has 3 tab shingles. If I re-roof I would like something that would last longer like architectural shingles. As I look at the current roofing job one row on each side literally wraps the corner of the roof line. The 3 tab shingles are thin and can do this in normal temperatures. My experience with architectural shingle say they are too stiff to do that.

Has anyone run into this before?

In almost all cases, you want to try to snap chalk lines and try and start and end with a full row of shingle exposure where the gambler changes pitch. Some guys will even install a d style drip edge there.

But on a hot day, yes they will bend. Follow the mfg's installation instructions if there is a steep pitch.

Assuming your are stripping the current shingles, I would also center a wide piece of ice and rain shield along the pitch change before shingling.
