This season I wanted to have a new roof installed the existing house and a new entry porch built (Portico 10 ft w x 8 ft deep) at the same time. With all the past labor and material problems it is proved difficult to get a contractor scheduled for both of these jobs.
What would be the downside if I had the porch added on after the new house roof. I am considering this because there are leaks and much needed repairs that need to be done fascias and gutters also . How should the new roof from the porch and the new roof house be tied together with the shingle and correct flashing, underlayement and IWB ?
I would add the new porch roof first. It's easy to temporarily install tar paper, rolled roofing or cheap shingles to protect the house until it all gets a new roof. Then, in the end, your entire roof will match and look nice instead of having a difference apparent around the new addition.
My shingle roof has about 40 degree slope. Gutters are on horizontal edges and drip preventers (reversed drip edge) are on some of the sloped edges.
Question 1: Can drip preventers be replaced with gutters or drip edges?
Question 2: The gutters and downspouts are the standard size. Can I upsize the downspout only? (keeping the gutters)
Question 3: What is the best (most practical) debris filter for the gutter?
Thank you.
Any good sources for this information? What do I need to know? I need to install gutters and downspouts to help direct water away from my foundation problems, and I don't want to assume its as easy as it looks. I have a 1 1/2 story with very steep roof and canted fascia so I'll probably need bracket wedges
