Remove old wood shingle lath?

I'm replacing the old roof from my 100 year old house. The
original roof was wood shingle over wood lath over rafters.
I've heard differing opinions from several roofing contractors on whether or not to remove the old lath...one says to plywood over the existing lath, others say to remove the lath and nail new plywood directly over the rafters. Any thoughts on the subject out there?

TIA

I come in on the side that says leave the skip sheathing (or lath, if you will) in place and put the plywood or OSB over it. Not only does it provide support for the plywood or OSB sheathing, it saves the labor of removing it.
