Anybody know a way to get rid of the stains on a light colored shingle roof? I assume it's mildew and have tried bleach, but I must not be using enough.

Once the mildew(mould, moss) has attached itself to the shingles, and you have scraped, bleached etc, time and weather are best at removing the stains.

To prevent it from coming back is a different story. Best done when you reroof, is the application of zinc strips,(decretely afixed pieces of galvanized metal). Some manufacturers make shingles with anti-fungial agents in them.

For now, the application of a fungacide will kill the spores and hinder their regrowth, but not stop it.
Good luck
