Help! I replaced my roof in august. Prior roof had no flashing around the chimney (apart from that installed in the brick work) and there were no leaks around it. I installed flashing around the top of the chimney and the shingles go up the chimney to the brick work flashing. I am getting leaks! Should i just goop the side shingles to get rid of the leak? How do i fix it?

I am a homeowner about to reroof and paint the exterior of a 1920 Dutch Colonial. I have hired 2 roofers and have 30 year Certainteed shingles. My problem is I want to use the lead/copper/lead flashing and the roofers have no experience with this product. They want to use aluminum. I also plan to use the butyl (rubber type) of under- layment in high risk water leakage areas. Have searched the net and found little useful information, including "This Old House". Does anyone on this forum have any experience with this flashing or can direct me to a site where I can get detailed info. on its use? Have even gone to the Copper Association web site only to find the 4 or 5 manufacturers named.
