Question Vaulted Ceilings - How do you frame the roof?

I'm going to add a room to my home with a vaulted ceiling. I don't want to use scissor strusses. I've been in homes with exposed trusses, spaced say 8 feet on center. That's what I want to do. None of the references books I have, or any I've looked at on line detail how to frame a roof with exposed beam ceiling below. Can anybody direct me to a good reference for this kind of construction?

I am really not sure where you would find one. I looked in the builders bible and it only mentions it in passing. These types of ceiling structures are usually drawn for the job that is using them. Each one is different. You must also have the correct type of walls to hold these beams up. They are not cheap, and the beams are usually custom made. The most popular way is to use sissor trusses, cover them with say knotty pine and then box in your ceiling beams to make them look real. I have done this in several large lodges.
