3/12 roof ok to use ridge vent?

I'm getting different opinions from 2 roofers weather I can use a ridge vent with my 3/12 roof or will need to use the "standard" square roof vents lined along the top portion of the roof. I live in the snow belt so I do have to worry about blowing snow and ice dams. Any pros and cons??

Thanks in advance Mike

I'll only give you an opinion, since I haven't seen the roof, but my first choice would have to be a ridge vent, along with soffit vents. the ridge vent has a smaller profile, so blowing snow wont be drifting as much, also they just look alot better than a line of boxes along the top of your roof.
