I am considering putting up a 5 foot tripod for a antenna and rotor on my roof. In my travels I see lots of tripods where 1 or 2 legs are pulled out of the roof. I whould think these are poor installations, but it causes me concerns about leaking and possibility bigger roof problems caused by wind stress. Properly installed, is the tripod still a problem?
Any opinions? I am located in up state New York near Buffalo. My roof only has a ledger board in the ridge. Am going to install collar ties later this summer.
We are in the process of getting estimates for a stone coated steel roof. The contractor makes several claims I need verified:
1. They normally install over the existing cedar shake shingles. They claim that they will dry out quickly and provide an additional layer of insulation beneath the steel. Does this sound reasonable? (There will be no foam between the steel & cedar)
2. "Since steel cools faster than asphalt, our energy bills in the summer will be reduced. " How much difference could we expect in such a scenario?
Also, how important is an EPA Energy Star rating in residential roofing materials? Should this be a deciding factor?
Thanks for your input
