Flat roof maintenance

My home has a 'pitch and gravel' flat roof - sealed with tar, covered by gravel, with water drainage through the center of the house. I'm starting to get some significant moss growth in spots. Should I remove it?

Any other tips on maintenance to extend the life would be appreciated.

The areas you are talking about with the moss are caused from Ponding. That is where water sits for a longer time than it should. Roofs such as yours are built with tapered insulation to achive positive drain and not allow ponding water. There is no quick and easy fix. You may want to call a local roofing contractor to see what might have to be done.
