Question Roof coating

I have a flat-tile roof on my home. A neighbor, about 5 years ago, had his roof coated with some type of sealer that went on like concrete with a trowel, then some type of elastic coating was applied. Do you have any knowledge of this process? It seems as if it would make roofs like mine last a lot longer and be cheaper than a complete re-roof when the roof is sound.

It would sound like it would work well, but most will dry out, crack and chip and leak in about 3-6 years, then you have a real mess.
The only really good way to roof a flat roof is a rubber roof.

The roof itself is not flat but pitched. The type of tile used is flat. Is your answer any different?
