unlevel floor under carpet

I have a room with carpet that has a crown in the middle of the room. I am thinking about installing new carpet , but I would like to level the floor first. Can I use a leveling compound if I'm going to put carpet over it or should I try to use wood shims to level the floor?

Thanks,

zeb

Floor not flat under carpet

The crown can be ground down with a grinder. Leveling material will take out dips and sags in concrete floor.

FLOOR PREP; Rule 238,

You can float a hole, but you can't float a hill.

Grind or sand the high spot.
