Best padding

I am getting ready to carpet an area of my house and need to buy some pad. I was told by a guy I know who sells carpet to use 7/16 instead of 5/8 because the 5/8 will cause a "buckling" at the wall......has anyone heard of this? What would you recommend?

Thanks

Any cushion over 7/16" on a cut pile carpet WILL VOID THE CARPET WARRATIES!

It has been proved many times over to cause premature wrinkles and pulling loose from the tackstrip. Too much flex in the backing, causes the fillers in the latex holding the primary and secondary backings together, to fall out. Delamination of the backings happens and the carpet looses all its dimensional stability, because it isn't attached to the secondary backing any longer.

If your installing a loop pile carpet, I recommend no greater then a 3/8" cushion with a heavy density of at least 8-lb.

Go for the 5/8 if you plan on paying for restretches and replacements often.
