DryClean an area rug?

I have an area rug, approx 3' X 4'. It has been rolled up in a corner for years. What is the best way to clean it. Do I have it drycleaned? Im worried because I had a quilt drycleaned & it faded terribly. Thanks for any advice. Jina

There are no tags on the rug. You can see a picture of the top & bottom at this website. http://home.stny.rr.com/thimblyjina/1rug.jpg

Cleaning rug

If rug is wool or other natural fiber, it is best to consult with local professional. If it is a synthetic rug, then DIY cleaning methods and commercial rug cleaners are available. Check manufacturer's labels. If in doubt, always consult a professional.
