Which Basement Option to Go With?

I have a 800 sq ft dry basement with concrete floor and winding center stairs, one room is a spare bedroom, and other large room is play area and TV viewing area.

Wife wants carpet.

I can get some big 2x2' loop carpet squares for about $0.85 sqft delivered.
- about $700
I can get some terrasae or milliken for about $2.50-$3 sqft.
- about $2-2400
I can get some berber rolls from ga carpet mill for $6 sqyd
- about $550, + $200 freight, + $200 pad, + $1000 installation? - $2000
- or better quality, figure $500-1000 more.

I don't have a problem laying the squares. Problem with them is that
I don't know if they can be used on the stairs that easily?

Do I need a subfloor (dricore/subflor) for any of these choices?
Do I have better choices that I could be looking at?
Would I be happy with the cheapest option, or would I end up
regretting it?

Thanks for any info you can supply.

The cheapest option will not get you much but it will work. for 89 cents I imagine there will not be pad.
you could probably do the steps in them, but you will need a metal bullnose to finish off.

the tesserea would be the biggest money saver because you can install yourself, and it will be easy to install and comfy to boot, but I do not see how they can be used on the steps.

carpet and install would be the easiest, but it will cost more.

my recommendation:
buy the Tesserea for the floor, and install it yourself.
then buy a complimentary berber for the steps, and have a pro install it.
