more details
Addition is 600 sq ft, room I am working on is 11.7X19, carpet will cover only 11x11.7. No seams, except into closet, carpet is 12 wide, have not rented tools yet, was told all I need is a kicker. Not sure how close to put tack strips to wall and do they under or over pad? Thank you for the reply

A kicker is not a tool for stretching carpet, it is to position carpet. To try to stretch a carpet in a near 20 foot room with a kicker and little to no experience can cause Serious injury to the user. Instructions are available ar the Carpet and rug institute website. More lenthy than I would care to type, read up on it,

to get you started,
cut a scrap of carpet and hold it between the wall/baseboard and tack strip. that will give you the gap you need.
cut the pad to fit inside of the tackstrips, leaving 1/4 to 1/2" space between tackstrip and pad. then use a staple gun or slap stapler around the edges to keep the pad from shifting. you can email me askpimp@aol.com for any installation questions.
