Carpet to hardwood or laminate transition

Hi there,

We are planning on having new carpet installed, but have discussed installing hardwood or laminate floors in the hallway that lead up to the carpeted area, especially since the doorways into the other rooms are wear the carpet has worn the most and gets dirtiest the fastest due to traffic. I'm assuming that if we install the laminate flooring, we would need to do that before the carpeting. I'm planning on having the carpet professionally installed, and I assume that this is something they deal with all the time. My question is, what is the best way to transition from the carpet to the laminate floor? Although I will have the experts do it, I want to know what my options are so I can tell them how I want it done. I really don't want a brass strip across it if I don't have to. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Use a matching end cap made by the laminate manufacturer and the installers will install the carpet up to it.
