high-traffic areas matted

The carpet in some high traffic areas is beginning to look matted and crushed. The carpet should have a couple of years life left in it and the rest of the home looks nice. Will a carpet rake improve the appearance?

If the correct thickness and weight of carpet cushion was not used in areas for high traffic, cushion tends to wear down. If carpet was not frequently vacuumed and professionally cleaned at least every 12-18 months before showing signs of soiling, carpet fibers will mat. A carpet rake would only fluff the carpet until someone walked on it.

For carpet troubleshooting go to the Carpet Rug Institute's site: http://www.carpet-rug.com/drill_down_2.cfm?page=2&sub=6
