i wonder if anyone can help us. We recently purchased a house, we were informed of a paint stain on a bedroom carpet, unaware it was a paint spill!!! looks as if bucket of paint spilled and never cleaned up ! Can anyone suggest a way of getting it off or does the carpet have to be replaced?? thanks from Canada......

I've had success with a product called "goof-off", available wherever paints are sold. Its basically naptha (lighter fluid).

As always, test it on an inconspicuous spot of the carpet just to make sure it won't harm the carpet.

If the spill has been there that long, this may not work.

Hi from a fellow Canadian:

I'm afraid you'll have to replace the carpet. Once paint has dried on carpets, it's all but impossible to get it to dissolve. If it's a large spill as you think, the paint will probably go all the way to the bottom of the fiber.

Sorry, I've been cleaning carpets for over 10 years and haven't found a solution for your problem.
