Help!!!
I recently moved into a home with new sea grass carpet. We love how it looks, but in our downstairs room, mold and fuzzy white stuff keep growing on the carpet surface.
Any suggestions!!

Is the carpet glued down to concrete? If so, it sounds like you have moisture coming up through the floor. Two things that will help are heat and ventilation. You need to get the moisture out of the room. If the problem persists, you might have to remove the carpet, put a sealer on the floor, and re-install the carpet. The main thing is to keep the room as dry as possible.
Good luck.

The white fizzy stuff you see is mature mold. You have to kill this stuff or it will severly effect the air quality in your home. If you have small children at home, this could severely damage their lungs.
GET THE CARPET OUT. You obviously have a humidity problem in the basement. If the mold and mildew are obvious on the surface of the carpet, then, what is under the carpet and inside the walls of the basement.
Remove the carpet and then wash the floor with either a peroxide or bleach solution to kill the mold and mildew in the concrete floor. Make sure you open all the basement windows and place a fan in one window to blow the humidity out of the basement.
If I was you, I'd call my insurance agent to get help in this matter. It's quite possible that you'll have to gut the entire basement to get rid of the mold and mildew. This is one of the things our company does. Let me tell you that it is a serious health hazard and should be taken care of ASAP.
