Pet stain on underlayment

I am replacing the carpet in a room of my house and when I pulled it up, there are many pet stains on the floor. In particular, there are 2 very heavily solied spots. The underlayment is 1/4 in. particleboard I believe. I'm not sure what material the subfloor is made of. I'm wondering if it's worth replacing the underlayment in the heavily soiled areas, or just disinfecting the areas and covering them with Kilz paint.

That would be your choice. One removes it permanently and the other just masks it for a period of time.

DIYers report success sealing odors in with a couple coats of primer/sealer like Zinnser or a couple coats of polyurethane.

Thanks for the advice. I ended up replacing 2 4' x 4' sections of underlayment that were badly stained and painted the rest of the floor with Killz primer. So far, so good.
